Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Okay, let's just jump right in. This book is about a boy named Jacob who is sixteen years old. He was really close to his grandfather before he passed away. They bonded over these strange pictures that he showed Jacob, that is, until Jacob realized they were photo shopped. Well, that's what he thinks any way. He soon discovers Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and discovers he may belong there. The only problem is that they are having problems since he arrived there and, of course, he has to help them out now,

Overall, I did like this book. Look at the cover. Do you see how eerie and unsettling it is? That's kind of how this book feels. I really appreciated that aspect of it. However, My main problem with this book is that it feels like Riggs just found these old creepy photographs and wanted to write about them. Which is probably what happened, but it shouldn't feel that way. I think the pictures should have enhanced the story but it was more like they were just thrown in there because they could have been. It also felt like the story was tailored to fit the pictures. I wish there was a way for the two to fit seamlessly, but it wasn't that way in the book.

I thought the concept was super interesting and the pictures were a cool bonus but they were just kind of plopped in there. The relationships between some characters were really interesting, especially with one of the "peculiar" kids. I like Jacob's grandfather a lot and thought he really added to the meaning in this story, even if he got me mad at times.

I just didn't feel like I cared about most of the characters. I liked them and found them interesting, but I didn't care! It was frustrating because I wanted to care so much, and I would almost convince myself I did, but then reality would hit and I just didn't care about any of them. This book was still interesting and unique but it wasn't my favorite like it is for a lot of people. 3 out of 5 stars.
