I won't get too deep with the plot description with this book out of pure laziness, cool? Thought so. This book focuses on two characters, Aria and Perry. Aria lives in this society that's kinda closed off to the outside world, very contained and in this society, they have technology that is way advanced along with their medical field. Perry lives in the outside where they are seen as savages to those who live inside. They are civil and all but they aren't very advanced at all. Think of it like camping. And to make a long story short, Perry's nephew gets taken in and Aria gets kicked out. It's more complicated but, I'll talk more about that later. So, now the two main characters get thrown together and they are trying to save Perry's nephew and, like every other dystopian, they discover the truth about society.
So, I know that's a lame summary but there is a reason for that. I didn't find much enjoyment in the first sixty or so pages. I couldn't focus on it very well because it was all basically exposition and it was fairly boring to me. Now, this may just be me and some of you may have found the first part very enjoyable, but I didn't. I set this book down for a while because it bored me. I didn't get much entertainment out of it. BUT, when I did pick it back up, it was great. It happens several times that I put a book down right before the most interesting part but then I pick it up and I end up really liking it.
I feel like we got a good look at the two main characters and the dystopian society that they live in but now comes the challenging part. The side characters. I liked Perry's nephew a lot but that was about it. The rest I saw a lot of potential in and I hope that they all get flushed out in the next book because there were a couple that I found interesting and that I liked and I really wanted to get a better look at.
The plot was interesting and it kept me engaged, especially with the two main characters. I loved the romance because NO LOVE TRIANGLE. Thank the lord. There is romance and I felt like it was slightly rushed at the end of the book but it was still ten times better than some unnecessary love triangle. It was cute and sweet not hot and heavy like so many books make relationships seem these days. Absolutely loved it. This series has a lot of potential and the characters are interesting enough to keep the reader engaged. The only down sides I found were that it was slow in the beginning, but again, that could just be me, and that the plot seems to be following the basic one that all dytopian novels tend to follow. 4 out of 5 stars.
