So here's a quick back story on this book. When I first discovered Goodreads, this was the first book I marked as "to be read" and since then I have looked for it everywhere I went. It wasn't until my dad let me order it off of the internet that I finally got my hands on a copy. So two years after I found out about it, I got to read it and I'm happy to say that it did not disappoint.
This novel follows Kate, an American girl who's parents died in a car crash and then has to move to Paris with her older sister, Georgia, to live with her grandparents. When we first meet her, she is still grieving over the loss of her mom and dad and is trying to settle down in an entirely new life. One day she ends up bumping into a guy named Vincent, and immediately knows he's not normal. As it turns out, he is a paranormal being. From that point out, Kate is stuck liking him but also knowing he is not human.
The thing that really stands out to me about this book is that the paranormal beings are completely original. They aren't vampires, wear wolfs, zombies, witches, or anything of the like. I found it so interesting how well thought out they were. I don't want to give too much away but they are immortal, but with a twist. A very interesting twist. I also appreciated that Kate wanted to stay away from Vincent because he wasn't human but gets dragged into this big mess that I won't spoil for you guys.
The characters in it were highly enjoyable and pretty funny when they wanted to be. They also hold some secrets that I assume are revealed in later books. I particularly liked the sister relationship between Kate and Georgia because it was so realistic with the way they fight, see each other, and care about each other. The relationship between Kate and Vincent wasn't necessarily insta-love, but was enough for me to roll my eyes a little. It wasn't that bad but I would have liked to see it toned down just a bit.
Over all, I highly enjoyed this book. If you want a romance but with an actual plot and some, not a whole lot, action, I think you would really enjoy this book. I went through it very quickly; I finished it in two days. 4 out of 5 stars.
