Gulliver's Travels by Johnathon Swift

This book is about a traveler named Gulliver who goes out on several voyages and gets lost on each of them. Each time, he lands on a different island with different creatures on it. Each time, he ends up staying a while. Each time, he ends up learning their culture and compares it that of humans.

I was not a fan of this book. I was so disappointed because I thought I would really like it. The concept was so interesting and I was looking forward to see what Swift would say about the human race but I did not like it.

The whole reason was because of the writing style. I tried to read it but I wasn't retaining anything that I read. I would get ten pages in but only remember the first two. I would try to focus but they were just words on a page to me. No real meaning behind them. I didn't care about the characters and didn't know what was really going on with the plot half the time.

The parts that I did retain I really like and thought they were interesting but it didn't hold my interest or attention. And that made it all the more disappointing because I probably would have liked it had the writing been different. I liked the concept, the meaning behind it, and what it had to say about the human race but I didn't enjoy it at all. I think a lot of people will still like it but it didn't work for me. If you are still interested in reading it, try reading a sample of it first and deciding if the writing style is something you like or don't mind. I liked the meaning of it but writing will make or break a novel for me and in this case, it "broke" the novel. 1 out of 5 stars.
