So in celebration of spring and slowly turning into summer, I have decided to recommend to you some of my favorite LIGHT HEARTED contemporary books/authors. I stress light hearted because these are some books that you want to read during summer and not think about too much, these aren't meant to be deep and insightful books. Alright, let's get started! (In no particular order)
Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen
Or any Sarah Dessen book for that matter. Her books all seem to have a love story going on in them, but also have a solid theme about something else; be it family, friends, acceptance, etc. These books are all super fun and summer-y, perfect for a day at the beach. Out of the four or five books by her that I have read, I have to say Along for the Ride is definitely my favorite.
The Kissing Booth by Beth Reekles
Alright, this book is a total guilty pleasure because this is completely full of cliches that most people roll their eyes at but in reality, they all want this to happen to them. So let me just put the two main ones in this book out there: bad boy and best friend's brother. Yup. See the guilt? In all honesty, I probably would roll my eyes at this book too, BUT if you WANT something cute, light hearted, cliche, and fun, this is the right book for you. All I can say is know what you're getting into with this book.
Elenor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
So if you haven't read this book yet, you should. It is super adorable and happy. It is, in my opinion, worth the hype. You may know that she has written other novels as well, but I just want to read them all in order of publication, which it totally unnecessary, they are all stand alones, but that is just me and my slightly OCD nature. Her second book Fangirl was so sweet and I think a lot of people who grew up with mainly Harry Potter would relate to it.
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
THIS BOOK. You guys, this book is the definition of cute contemporary reads. It involves an American girl, a French school, a French boy, and, sadly, a French girlfriend. This is just so cute and sweet. It is extremely captivating; I couldn't put this book down at all while I was reading it. This is the first in a companion series so in the next book, we will see some of the same characters, but the focus won't be on them. I think almost everyone will enjoy this book.
Alright, that is it for this post. I'm sorry if I left off any of your favorite contemporary books to read in the summer and I know this list if missing a lot of books and amazing authors, but keep in mind, I don't read as much contemporary as I would like so I am missing some authors that I would love to read but I just haven't yet. I may do an updated version of this list at a later date, but that is all for this post, and I will see you guys next week.
