SPRING BREAK IS HERE!!! And to celebrate having two weeks off from school, I'm reviewing a Sarah Dessen book because, really, what gets you in a better summer mood than a good contemporary book? Not much. This book is about Colie, a teen age girl on summer vacation, and, in a nut shell, how she learns to accept herself over the summer. Now obviously there is more to this book than that, such as a summer job and new friends who are trying to find out more about her while she is super reluctant.
This book is a super short, quick, light contemporary read that is absolutely perfect for spring break. You can finish this book in one sitting if you really wanted to. It will really make you feel better about yourself and it sends out that good message to anyone. It's about accepting yourself and all of your flaws but still loving yourself in every way,
If you want a book that will make you feel happy and is easy to read, I highly recommend this book. If you're looking for a book that will be deep and thought provoking, this may not be the right choice for you. It does have a deeper meaning than most contemporary books out there, but that's kind of where it ends. The characters, with the exception of Colie, are pretty flat characters. The best way to explain it is that they're like co-workers or fellow students that you've only known for a few months. You kind of know them, and you talk to them when necessary but other than that, you don't know much about them. There's depth to them and there's so much you don't know about them but since you barely talk to them you feel like you don't know them at all other than what's on the surface.
There was nothing really impressive about the plot either. I'd say it's all pretty typical summer activities that the characters do. Although this book isn't really a stand out book, I still enjoyed every bit of it and I feel like this book was meant to do that. It left a positive message and the journey Colie went on was fun to be a part of and THAT is what this book was trying to accomplish; which it did. 4 out of 5 stars.
Hey guys, thanks for sticking with me after these few weeks of limited internet for me. I really appreciated it. So now I can type up some book reviews, but next week, I plan on doing my first discussion post! I'm super excited to do this. I've had ideas for quite a while but putting it together in a way that made sense was difficult. It would also take a lot of time that I didn't have until now so I plan on posting one next week, so stayed tuned, I think you guys will like it...
