A couple weeks ago, this amazing book came out to celebrate a certain Seaweed Brain's birthday and of course I had to buy it on the very same day it came out. I also got the last AUTOGRAPHED copy at Target! I'm still freaking out about it. It was also my first signed book so there's that. Alright, this book has a fairly simple concept; Percy is telling us stories about some of the greatest Greek heroes. Yeah. That's basically the entire plot but we are hearing all of these ancient stories in Percy's voice. Sass galore.
So right off the bat I will say that this book is ridiculously amazing. The stories are as accurate a Greek mythology can be with so many different versions of these myths out there at this point. Percy gives the BEST commentary. It's so hilarious. The first page literally had me smiling like an idiot and there were multiple times when I had to close the book and take a moment to appreciate the genius that was printed in front of me.
That being said, this book is written for the fans. No doubt. It's written for us. The fandom. And we're weird. Really weird. It shows. And it's the best. The amount of references to pop culture is awesome and usually, I'm against too much references to what's going on during publication but this is one of the few times that I think the author can get away with it. And all of the references just make me smile to much and I all I can think of is looking back at this book in twenty years and thinking "Oh, I totally remember that! Good times!" This is such an entertaining read. You don't have to invest yourself in a larger than life plot and you can put it down for a while if you want to. Read a story at a time if you want. This book was one of the most entertaining reads I've read in a while. 5 out of 5 stars/
