Superhero Movies

This past weekend I had a huge superhero movie marathon because of the ComicCon trailer that were released for Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Deadpool. They got me so excited for the new movies coming out and I realized there were so many Marvel movies I haven't seen yet and I wanted to. So I spent all day Saturday watching nerdy movies and eating junk food. Yes, my Saturday was way better than yours. Be jealous. But this also got me thinking about all of the new superhero movies coming out. Now, it's been no secret that there were so many coming out from both DC and Marvel within these next couple of years, but this was the first time I actually sat down and thought about it in depth. So, here are some of my thoughts.

I think that the first thing many people said when they first heard this news a while ago was "Wow, they're clearly doing this for money." And I don't disagree. But here's the thing: They are still making good movies. Can anyone deny that? Can you honestly say that The Avengers was a bad movie? I don't think so. So yes, the decision to make these movies was probably money based, but the movies are good. And for a reason. Which brings me to my next point.

These movies have to be good otherwise, they just won't be able to continue them. Part of the reason that superhero movies are so good is because they reach a broad audience. Who hasn't had an encounter with Batman or Superman or Spiderman or The Hulk? Everyone has. So if these studios don't do a good job on these movies, people will make it known and the sales will show it. They don't really have an option to make a bad movie and so far, I don't think they have. Yes, some movies have been better than others but for the most part, I haven't hated any of them, yes, including Iron Man 3. I know a lot of people think that the amount of movies coming out are a bit excessive, and I do see why, but again, they are good quality movies. Guardians of the Galaxy anyone?

And my second main thought is just that it is so cool to see superheroes on the big screen like they are. Thor, Batman, Iron Man, Captain America, and others are being treated with respect on the screen. They are targeting an older audience and it shows. It's great. Not only that, but the whole Marvel universe is connecting! How exciting is that? The Avengers movies are actually playing a small part in each of the stand alone films and it is so interesting. But they do it in such a way that if you choose not to watch The Avengers (but really, why would you choose to do that?) you won't be confused. The story lines are fitting pretty well with each other.

I know that DC is also making their own movies universe but we haven't really seen it yet, but I'm so excited for it. Batman v Superman?! Don't get me started. (Batman all the way.) Again, it may be money based but it looks like a great movie. Ugh, I can't wait until March.

These are just a few thoughts I've been having. I know it's completely different from what I normally write but I thought it would be fun. Like I said earlier, I think everyone here has had some kind of contact with superheroes so I thought you may be able to relate to my excitement. This won't become a regular thing, I still plan on it being a book blog but I just wanted to do something different today. Also, I haven't really been reading as much as I normally do so there's that. Let me know if you want more posts like this or if you absolutely hate them. I was thinking about talking about why I am a Batman person but, again, I don't to put out too many of these posts in case all of you hate them. So let me know your thoughts and next week I'll have another bookish post for you. See ya!
